The question on how best to apply our base powder has come up in the past, and this may sound like an easy, no-brainer that certainly doesn’t require a blog post on it. Well, hey, I actually disagree. Foundation is one of the most purchased makeup products in our day. A decent amount of women with the seemingly “perfect” skin we crave will even go for foundation coverage, but skip concealer altogether. All natural no-makeup makeup looks more often than not require foundation as the base to the look. With that being said, tips are welcome and I’ve discovered a few in my own experience as well as hearing from my most-trusted friends. First and foremost, the brush you choose to pair with your base shade will impact how the powder is applied. Our Flat Top Brush is our customer-favorite, and for good reason. The bristles on this brush I designed to be closely compact but flat for even coverage. It’s wide enough to cover a good portion of the face and best when applied in a circular motion. The Long Handled Kabuki is even more dense with a curvaceous edge at the bristles for easier coverage in the trickier areas of the face such as underneath the nose, the curve of the jawlines, under the eyes. The Blender Face Brush is created for light coverage. Not wanting to look overdone? This is the perfect option. These are just my favorite of the brushes we offer, but remember your fave may be totally different! There is a shirt description with every individual brush to give you a feel of what it’s like before purchasing. My absolute MUST DO rule to abide by before applying foundation is moisturize. It’s true that not everyone will need to follow this rule, but with my skin type it’s definitely a must. If your skin feels extra oily for any reason or you just worked out and sweat is pouring down your face, I’d hands down advise using a toner before gently applying moisturizer. Now, for a liquid foundation the rule is to dab more than swirl, however loose powder is completely different, so please blend the soft powder in a circular swirl motion with your brush until all is even with your complexion. A major no-no that, believe me, took me years before realizing is blending into your neck! It can make a dramatic difference in images. Always double-check in the mirror after blending. The last tip I will list here is - and write this one down - always apply your foundation after concealer. I have seen at events, countless times, women wearing their foundation all backwards and it looks quite splotchy. Please don’t do this! Any thoughts? xo, Carina
