Everyday Minerals Spotlight: Meet Audrey

Everyday Minerals Spotlight: Meet Audrey

Hi! Give us a little intro to your rad self.

Hey! Thanks for calling me rad. I’m just lil ol me, a girl from a small town in Texas outside of Houston, now living her best life in sunny Los Angeles. I am Marketing Manager by day, but I have many side projects to keep me busy outside of my professional work. My main areas of focus as of late are fitness, nutrition, vintage clothing, streetwear fashion, iPhone photography, fine jewelry, and skincare.

You are clearly an advocate for vintage finds, when did this start for you?

Ahhh I love vintage so much! It’s a trigger word for sure. Along with “organic”. Is it vintage? I want it. Organic? Take my money!! It all started back in high school, I wanted a pair of cutoff denim shorts for the summer and at the time, I had a lot of “junk in my trunk” and all the shorts I tried on at popular stores (Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie) were made for girls with much smaller bodies than myself. So, I went to my local Goodwill store straight to the men’s section, found some good looking thick Levi jeans to cut and all the sudden I’m rocking the coolest shorts on the block. I then started to thrift frequently going into college, I loved the fact that no one else in school had the shirts or pants I was wearing. I didn’t start technically “vintage” shopping until I was out of college. Vintage is any item 20 years or older. The rarer the item, the more expensive. When thrifting you can definitely find some vintage, but you just won’t actually know its vintage unless you buy from a vintage seller that has information on all of their pieces. For example, I bought a shirt recently and the guy knew it was from 1982. You can also do research yourself on any piece to find an estimate for the production date.

Where are your favorite vintage shops in LA?

My vintage shopping definitely got kicked to a new level when moving to LA. There is a plethora of vintage shops and thrift stores. I haven’t even put a dent in the ever-growing list (and I shop every weekend) Luckily, I live 1 mile away from the best area of Melrose in West Hollywood. This one street has alllll the best shops. Some of my favorites are Wasteland, Denim Heaven, Round Two Vintage, American Vintage, World of Vintage T-shirts, and every Sunday you can find me at the Melrose Trading Post, which is a flea market that happens once a week and has amazing vintage clothes, reworked clothes, vintage designer, art, handmade items, mini churros and more! Did I mention mini churros? audrey2

How would you describe your style?

I consider my style sporty-chic, but if you ask my mom, she will say I’m “very casual”. Comfort is key. I love my vintage and I wear sneakers 99% of the time. I love mixing designer with athleisure wear.

Let's be real. LA is a pretty get-tough-or-get-out city. How do you manage to find your peace?

LA is extremely fast paced and I believe it will absolutely make or break you. It is not for the faint of heart. Most, if not all people that move here are on some sort of mission, the majority being in the entertainment and modeling industry. Luckily, I moved here for reasons unlike the rest and a bit ahead of the rest due to my work-from-home job. This took a lot of pressure off my shoulders while making my move, since I didn’t have to go find a job (or 3) like most people do to survive out here. I graduated college December ‘17 and landed a great job as a Remote Marketing Manager. My motto is “work smarter, not harder” I usually always have a few side projects and streams of passive income generating for myself, I have been hustling since I can remember. When I moved from Houston I sold almost all of my clothes and furniture on Facebook and Craigslist. People will buy anything! I even sold some plants and a 5-year-old blender. Personally, I find my peace through positive thinking and the good ol’ law of attraction. If you think positive- amazing things will come to you. I believe anything you think, you can manifest. So, think great things always to bring greatness into your life. Also avoid driving at all costs. Mainly that. Traffic is stressful so, I’ll pass.

What does your typical night out on the town look like?

Although I’m young and I love to dance and have fun, I do most of my dancing outside of the club. I’ve never been big on going out. During college, I went out 4-5 times a year, max. There’s no benefits to getting drunk and wasting money on those sorts of things. If I do hit the clubs, I like to go to spots that play latin or hip hop music.

What is your favorite self-care ritual?

My favorite self-care ritual is a good sweaty workout followed by a favorite meal, a hot bath with lavender epsom salt, a detox face mask, essential oils for my body and dessert, of course. Cookies or ice cream. Or both. #balance audrey1

Last concert you went to...

My last concert was one of my all-time favorite bands, the Arctic Monkeys. I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl and they were so amazing I could cry. Maybe I did. Alex Turner’s voice could make a blind man see.

And, how do you pursue the lifestyle you envision for yourself on a day-to-day basis?

I am constantly learning and growing. Every week I get excited about something new that I want to pursue or just mini goals I want to achieve. I write my ideas and goals down in my notes on my phone so I won’t forget, there’s also a science to goal setting that claims you become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams, simply by writing them down on a regular basis. I prefer writing short term goals rather than long term because they are easier to achieve and it’s easier to lose motivation when you only set one long term goal, rather than several mini goals that are essentially leading you to your ultimate goal. I think it’s also important to “speak it into existence” so, tell your friends and family about your goals, it holds you accountable and puts it into the universe. audrey5 Check out her page on Instagram! @auelz SHOP WHAT'S CURRENTLY IN AUDREY’S MAKEUP COLLECTION: Activist Lip Gloss Pearl Finishing Dust Bronzed Finishing Dust Sunny All Over Shimmer Love Me Pink Luminous Blush Bamboo Blender Face Brush
